Collection: Treenware

Responsible cooking ware.

We use sustainably sourced woods, rescued by sawyers (or ourselves) from the chippers, as well as woods recovered from housing demolitions, and purchases we make from retired carpenters. We do not use old floorboards, nor treated or varnished timbers, as we don't know what chemicals and nasties have seeped into them. using locally-sourced timbers means less diesel is used in transport, and less chance of workers and forests being exploited off-shore. It also means the timber is not treated for pests when entering the country.

No glues, resins or varnishes.

We craft our treenware from single pieces of timber, and do not glue wood together. While we don't judge those who do, our experience and research shows PVA glues chemically unbond when exposed to heat and moisture, coming apart and allowing mold to form. Equally, while resin has its uses, we avoid plastics and petro-chemical derived synthetics wherever possible. We want our items to eventually break down naturally, without adding to the world's micro-plastic problems. And who wants plastic particles in their soup, right?

No bamboo.

While an excellent material in its own right, when processed for use in boards and other cooking implements, more glues and chemicals are used to prepare and bond the grass fibres than we're comfortable cooking with. And if we won't cook our food with it, we won't sell it.
